Westlake Approvs Plans for New Park

August 18, 2010

The Westlake City Council recently approved building plans for the new Westlake Village Community Park by LIndero Canyon Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

The proposed space, located on 18 acres, will include a YMCA sports complex and city-owned playfields. Other facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, skate park, and jogging trail around the perimeter of the property.

Construction started last summer after voters approved an $8 million bond to upgrade usable portions of the property.

The city will receive $500,000 from Los Angeles County and a possible $1-million grant through the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

“It’s an exciting and ambitious project; they’ve done a good job to provide a first-class facility for the entire region,” Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky told The Acorn.

Several years ago, the county committed $250,000 to the park. After a recent meeting with Westlake Village city officials, Yaroslavsky decided to double the contribution.

“It’s a sensible thing for us to do. These are important services, and the city has invested a lot,” the supervisor said.
