Westlake High School Best in County
July 23, 2010
Westlake High School was ranked first out of all public high schools in Ventura County.
In it’s annual rankings of the top American public high schools, Westlake ranked first in Ventura County, 25th in the state, and 236th nationally. This places it within the top five percent of schools in the country.
The Newsweek rankings are based on the number of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams taken by students at each school, divided by size and graduating class.
AP and IB classes allow high school students to earn college credit by passing an exam at the end of the year.
The two other high schools within the Conejo Valley Unified School District also ranked well. Newbury Park High School was 2nd in the county, 101st in the state, and 635th nationally. Thousand Oaks High School was 5th in the county, 194th in the state, and 1,153rd in the nation. That places all three schools in the top five percent nationally.
