Westlake Quarterback Quits the Game
January 26, 2012
In a move that caught many by surprise, Westlake High School quarterback Justin Moore has quit the game of football.
During the last season, Moore, a junior, earned the recognition of being Southern Section Northern Division Player of the Year after throwing for 2,483 yards, rushing for 1,099, and accounting for 40 touchdowns.
“Justin told me he was done playing football, it was not his path in life anymore, he had deviated from some of his goals,” Coach Jem Benkert said to ESPN . “I’m sure that people are going to say he had some kind of issue here at Westlake, I can assure you Justin had no problems. You can look, look, and look, no one will be able to draw any conclusions. It was time for him to move on, that’s basically what he said.”
Moore was considered one of the top college draft prospects in 2013. He already received interest from USC and UCLA, and had a scholarship offer from Southern Methodist University.
Moore also decided to leave Westlake High School and spend his senior year at Royal High School in Simi Valley.
